Palworld 1.0 Quietly Redesigns Pals That Looked Too Much Like Pokémon

Palworld has officially launched version 1.0, and alongside the milestone release, developer Pocketpair has quietly rolled out visual redesigns for several Pals that bore a striking resemblance to well-known Pokémon. Players were quick to spot the changes, with some of the most notable alterations affecting creatures that previously looked similar to Pokémon final-evolution starters like Cinderace and Decidueye. The redesigned Pals now sport more distinct visual styles, putting more distance between Pocketpair's creations and Nintendo's beloved franchise.

The timing is hard to ignore. Palworld exploded onto the scene in early 2024, selling over 40 million copies despite launching in early access, but it also drew immediate scrutiny over the visual similarities between its Pals and various Pokémon. Nintendo pursued legal action against Pocketpair, and the lawsuit has loomed over the game's development ever since. Now, as the game crosses the finish line into a full 1.0 release, the redesigns appear to be a deliberate effort to distinguish the game's creature roster and potentially reduce legal exposure.
